General Membership Meeting
Thursday, September 25, 2008
Time: 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Place: Pine Shadows Clubhouse Cardroom, 2050 West Highway 89A, Cottonwood
See our Events page for a map and driving directions.
Program: We will take a close look at the Ballot Initiatives. All registered voters should have received the booklet with ballot measures. The titles of the props can be misleading and the wording confusing. Yavapai County Democratic Party has sent us their recommendations. Angela LeFevre, DORR Board Member and Delegate to the Democratic Convention in Denver will show us highlights of the event. On the agenda is Julie Ayers, Yavapai County Outreach, who will give us a presentation on the Jail District Sales Tax.
These are some of the Initiatives we will be discussing. See if you agree with the recommendations and give us your input. If you would like a copy of the recommendations which we will hand out at our next meeting, just notify our office and we will send by e-mail or regular mail. Call 639-3688:
Prop 100 – Protect our Homes
Prop 101 – Freedom of Choice in Health Care
Prop 102 – Protect Marriage Proposition
Prop 105 – Majority Rules Initiative
Prop 200 – Payday Loan Reform
Prop 201 – Homeowners’ Bill of Rights
Prop 202 – Stop Illegal Hiring
Prop 300 – Legislative Salary Increase
DOVV NEW OFFICE HOURS: We will now be open on Monday 11 am to 4 pm.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, is still 1 pm to 5 pm. Saturday is 1 pm to 4 pm.
If more volunteers come forward, we can extend those hours. Would you like to pitch in?
Volunteers Needed: Next big push is phone banking. There are many other ways you can help. Call and we can fill you in. 639-3688.
POLL WATCHERS and POLL WORKERS are critical to this election. Our goal is for 3 “WATCHERS” AT each precinct. We will provide instructions and you can work in shifts. .
HAVE YOU REGISTERED FOR THE “PERMANENT EARLY VOTING LIST”? We are urging all Democrats to do this. The number of registered Democrats who are receiving mail-in ballots is very low. It is a safer way to insure your vote counts and it makes the work of the Board of Elections easier. If you choose not to be on the permanent list, at least request a ballot for this election. Google on-line: Yavapai County Voting. Or go in person to sign up at the Board of Elections office in the County building on 6th St.
Early (in person) voting begins October 3rd - Last day to vote early in person: October 31
Last day to register to vote: October 6th
Last day to request an early ballot by mail: October 24th
